New York is a Completely Different World: Hectic and All

So New York has been pretty hectic, part of the reason I haven’t been able to post. Life is crazy here, things move so fast there is no time to stop and relax. Todaytimes-square-1024x768 I finally have a break, after morning meetings with Morgan Stanley, I am off shopping and site seeing before my banquet dinner at the Billionaire, William P. Carey’s penthouse apartment. Should be quite an event, especially since he is the founder of my business school, the W. P. Carey school of Business at Arizona State. Back to the rest of this week, hectic explains it all. Yesterday, I had several meetings throughout the day and got lost going to all of them. Instead of getting of at the Wall Street exit I ended up crossing the bridge and heading into the wrong part of Brooklyn. I got it all settled but stressed me out for a while. Networking has been very successful, still undecided if I want to pursue an internship next summer or just travel but having the contacts there is never a bad scenario. Last night was also pretty crazy with the Yankees winning the world series. I am staying in Times Square and it was quite a party with people rioting, dancing on cars and all. I am excited for the parade on Friday, trying to work it in between my meetings. Anyways, sorry I haven’t been able to post this week about the stocks and the markets though will be back at it next week. Flying home early Sunday morning to make it to the USC vs Arizona State football game. I’ll try to get in another post before I leave though that all depends on timing.

If you plan on a career on wallstreet purchase one of the MTA subway maps and make it your best friend. NY subway is one of the best organized traveling in the world.

I feel the London subway/tube was way more efficient and renovated. One day I will definitely have to get one of those passes though.

Get Google maps or a dedicated app for iPhone/Blackberry – it routes the subways for you

If only I had an iPhone

Second you on NYC subway especially in the summer when it is crazy hot in the tunnels…

Hope you had a fruitful stay in the city. If I may say something, I think going for career tops traveling.

btw: dollar may seem turning around but not certain – would like to hear your thoughts.

    Cheers

True career should trump traveling yet gotta live life to the fullest and I love to travel. Will have a good trip in NYC just cold compared to Arizona. Will write about the dollar next week and let you know. I think its turning around

        Great. Thanks!

I also share the same passion for travel. Hopefully trading can soon become my career so I can work while moving around – definitely hate to work for others.

Ps: thanks for following on twitter. Look forward to reading your tweets. And kudos to your website.

Thanks Mao what field of work do you currently do? How do you plan on getting into trading if you don’t mind I ask?

        • Mao

Sure. My background is computer science. I currently work in telecommunication field (but I knew this would not be my piece of pie)…

Without background in finance, I teach myself trading and investing by reading books and participating in discussions and meetups. Absolutely love everything finance (even when I lose money). Hopefully by making regular contributions to my fund and make wise trading and investing decisions I will free myself from living on paychecks (not that I need a great deal of money, as long as it allows me to be my own boss and travel to wherever I want).

My current job will get me the work experience required for MBA application. If it works out, I will be able to switch to finance field where I can immerse into a whole lot of learning. Without getting some background in finance, I am not sure how easy it might be to get into trading, so this will be the plan.

Mao its a tough industry to get your foot in the door but when you do you reap all the benefits

    • http://stocksonwallstreet.net James

Well I have been interviewing all week and meeting with people and every bank and can tell you its hard to get into. Luckily I got early so have lots of second rounds which will hopefully turn into summer offers. If you need help learning how to get into a bank feel free to ask.

      • Mao

Hi, James, thanks – will keep that in mind. Good luck with summer offers.

          Thanks no problem here anytime.
